11 Free Digital Marketing Tools To Use In 2019 [Checklist]


A man is only as efficient as his tools. Once you have understood the skills required to become a Digital Marketer, here are my list of 11 free digital marketing tools to use in 2020.

Google Search Console/ Google Analytics

What better way to track your Google rankings and site performance than a tool provide by Google? These tools are extremely useful if you want to improve your website SEO. They are very easy to install and implement.

Most people confuse Google Search Console and Google Analytics. The simple way to understand the difference is – GSA is how the search engine views your site and GA is how the users see your site.

They both are 100% free.

Yes, it matters what you post on your social media. But it matters more “when” you post it. Normally, you would want to time your contents when your audience is the most active. For me, it is around 5pm and 6am.

But you don’t always have the time to post at the exact moment. That’s where Buffer comes in. With Buffer, you will be able to schedule your social media posts for a later date and time.

They have both free and paid plans. For free, you are limited to 3 social accounts, 1 user and 10 scheduled posts. For a starter, free plan is not bad.

Canva is a tool used to create graphics. It has ready made templates for almost every type of content you need to create online (ranging from business proposals to social media posts).

In today’s digital age, where even a content is day isn’t enough, Canva can be a life saver. I personally use Canva extensively to create Facebook and Instagram posts and stories.

They offer both paid and free plans.

SEM Rush

Although SEM Rush isn’t exactly a free service, it was just too useful to leave out. It is an SEO tool that allows you to monitor your own (or your competitors) website.

Here’s the tricky part. For a “free” plan (you need to login first), you only get 10 searches a day and can only use their Keyword and Domain Analytics database.

As a starter, these provide you with enough valuable information.

Here’s an absolutely free SEO tool. Neil Patel‘s Ubersuggest is a SEO tool that helps you generate keyword ideas for your content marketing strategy and production.

They recently launched a SEO Analyzer and a backlinks checker that can be extremely useful to research your competitors. And to also find loopholes in your website.

Among all other digital marketing tools, Ubersuggest is actually absolutely free ( without a freemium model).

Keywords Everywhere

I can’t tell you how important it is to do a keyword research before starting any Digital Marketing Campaign. You gotta sell what people are buying. To know what they are buying, you need to know what they are searching for.

That is where Keywords Everywhere is the most powerful. Keywords Everywhere is a freemium chrome extension that shows you monthly search volume, CPC & competition data.

It has both free and paid models.

Mailchimp

Mailchimp is an email marketing tool that allows you to create customer lists, automate replies and send out mass emails.

They show you stats about the open rate of the emails and your overall performance.

They have both free and paid plans.

In free plan, you get up to 2000 contacts and 1 audience. Which I think is enough for anyone starting out.

Swipe File is basically a collection of tested and proven advertising copies. Every great marketer has one. It allows you to look at the ads that have worked in the past and have generated results. This is among the best digital marketing tools I use.

Big Spy is a tool that allows you to enter a keyword and it shows all the ads that are currently running. Whenever you are stuck designing a graphic or writing a copy, just swing by Big Spy to get ideas.

Answer The Public

Here is another keyword research tool that I use almost everyday. Here’s why.

As a content creator, I need to optimize my keywords and headlines. Just guessing doesn’t work here. You need the data on what keywords work and doesn’t.

Just type in your keyword on Answer The Public and it provides with an overwhelming amount of keywords and title ideas.

Be aware that you are limited to only certain requests per day.

Buzzsumo is a market research tool used to quickly discover content ideas, uncover platform insights, identify passionate influencers and more.

Enter your topic into Buzzsumo and it spits out all the popular content written about that topic by other creators. Furthermore, it allows you to filter them according to the level of engagement it got.

This way, you can see what users like and create your content accordingly.

Yoast SEO

Yoast SEO is a WordPress plugin that can be a lifesaver.

I mostly use Yoast while writing my blogs (like this one). If allows me to add the title, meta-description and focus keyphrase. It also ranks my blog on a readability scale so I can make some changes before uploading it.

Yoast has also other features like social shares, xml sitemaps, SEO analysis and much more.
