Digital Marketing Trends 2020
One of the reasons why I love Digital Marketing is because of its dynamic nature. Nothing is constant, especially the trends for digital marketing and I love it!
Here are a list of Digital Marketing trends to keep you ahead of the competition in 2020:
Chat Bots (Conversational Marketing)
Automation is the future. Marketing is no longer about directing a sale. Before, you could run an ad saying, “Hey! here is what I’m selling. Buy it!” and it would work.
The market has changed now. People need nurturing, you need to guide them through the steps of buyer’s journey before you even pitch your product.
Think of it as going on a date. You don’t ask your date to sleep with you on your first night out. You talk to her, give her attention, listen to her problems and prove yourself so that she agrees to the second date.
That’s how you need to think of marketing and chat bots are the way to do it. I’m not saying answer all your question with a bot. Just use a chat bot to go past the initial sets of questions that every customers have.
Feeds vs Stories
There’s no way around it. Facebook is killing organic reach. Gone are the days when all your followers get to see your new product. Having your post reach even 10% of your followers is hard now.
Yes, the people who have volunteered to see your posts and have shown genuine interest in your page, are cut off from seeing your post. That’s where we are right now.
But not all is lost. Recent study found that stories get much more reach and engagement than a feed. Marketers and business owners are using both Facebook and Instagram stories to reach their audience and this is only going to grow in 2020.
What this means for us as digital marketers is, Facebook Groups are the next big thing. If you are a member of any Facebook Group, you must have noticed that the organic reach of the group activity is exceptionally well.
So, in 2020, people are going to hang out in private Facebook Groups.
If you’ve spent any time on YouTube or Instagram, you must have come across Influencer Marketing. Since the YouTube Adpocalypse, YouTubers have stopped relying on Google Adsense.
The next big thing after Affiliate Marketing, is Influencer Marketing where a business pays an Influencer to indorse their product/ services to their fans. This is how most of the Instagram millionaires are created.
In 2020, we are going to see more of this. If done correctly, with the correct influencer and correct messaging, this can prove to be very profitable.
Video Content Engagement
The future is video. It is estimated that 82% of internet traffic will be video by 2020. Can you imagine? 82%!
No wonder, all the major social media platforms like Twitter, Pinterest, LinkedIn have started to support video content. That is because people watch video.
We have an attention span of a Goldfish. The world’s largest video platform, YouTube, is the 2nd most popular website on the planet. 72% of consumers prefer to watch a video about a product than read a product description.
As a digital marketer, start creating video content for your business and clients.
When was the last time you read a 1000 word blog?
When was the last time you watched an hour long YouTube video?
Do you listen to an hour long Podcast?
The chances are you don’t. People don’t consume long form content like they used to. Modern content is about stuffing as much information as you can inside a content that is as small as it can be.
Some examples of micro contents are infographics, slideshows, explainer videos, cheatsheet, ebook, gifs etc.
LifeCycle Marketing and Brand Trust
As said before, modern marketing is no longer about directing a sale. If you run an ad selling your product to a cold audience, you will not do well.
Marketing funnels and customer journey is needed to sell in 2020. People need to know about you and your product before they even consider buying.
Since digital marketing is becoming more and more accessible to small business, there is going to be a shortage of trust. In a market where everyone is trying to sell, try to be the one trying to educate. Create your brand first and then start selling.
Hence, these are my list of digital marketing trends to follow in 2020. It is all about creating a connection with your audience before you even ask them to buy. Brand Trust will be very valuable in 2020.
